Bart Verschaffel

Bart Verschaffel (1956) is full Professor of Theory of Architecture and Architectural criticism at Ghent University (Belgium). He holds an MA in Medieval History and a PhD in Philosophy (KU Leuven, 1985). He has published widely in the fields of Architectural Theory, Theory of History, Aesthetics, and Philosophy of Culture.

Bart Verschaffel is the author of a series of documentary films produced between 1992 and 1996 on artists such as Jan Fabre, Henri De Braekeleer, René Magritte, Thierry De Cordier e.a. in collaboration with Jef Cornelis (BRTN). He was curator of two major exhibitions: ‘Giambattista Piranesi. The Print Collection of Ghent University’ (Gent, Museum of Fine Arts, Ghent, 2008) and ‘b0b Van Reeth. Architect’ (Brussels, BOZAR, 2013).
