      1. Barbara Visser

supervisor between September 2012 and May 2013

      2. Barbara Visser (Haarlem, NL, 1966) has been occupied with the relationship between registration and dramatization since the beginning of her career. Vissers’ work is driven by fascinations concerning original and copy, historical narratives and constructed biographies, which she translates into what she calls subjective documentaries.

By questioning the authenticity of images and their interpretation by the viewer, she influences the shape and the content of the work simultaneously. She executes her projects in an array of media, such as photography, film, video, text, printed matter and performance. This infiltration into existing systems and media leads to a diversity of works, ranging from a guest role as a Dutch artist in a foreign drama series to a work on a Dutch postage stamp.

Barbara Visser studied photography and audiovisual arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, the Cooper Union in New York and the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht. Since 1992 her work is shown internationally. Her work is represented by Annet Gelink Gallery, Amsterdam.
