Territoriality and Choreography in Site-Specific Practice

k.g. Guttman’s research project examines the site-specific event within the field of installation art and choreographic practices. As a performing artist, an experimental and performative use of Guttman's own bodily presence embedded within a site is central to her research.

 

Biography

k.g. Guttman (1975, CA) is an artist, teacher and choreographer based in Montreal and currently living in Amsterdam. Her research, funded through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), considers relationships between mapping, choreography, and site-specific interventions. Her art work has been screened, performed, collected and exhibited nationally and internationally through institutions such as Mediamatic, Amsterdam, Palais de Tokyo and Galerie Khiasma, Paris, Ottawa Art Gallery, Galerie LaCentrale, Montreal, Visualeyez Festival, and the Canada Dance Festival.

Her artist publication Elapse I & II, designed by Arcioli and Schrader, was launched at Art Metropole, Toronto and Galerie LaCentrale, Montreal, and is in the collection of the Library and Archives of the National Gallery of Canada.

k.g. was a dance company member of LeGroupe Dance Lab from 1999-2004, under the direction of Peter Boneham. From 2008-2013, k.g. Guttman was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Contemporary Dance at Concordia University, Montreal.
