Primarily through the medium of photography, Hans Scholten's research project investigates the phenomenon of global urbanization. Departing from his archive of photographs depicting cities around the world, Scholten’s research reflects on the idea of ‘progress’, the values of failure and the entropic character of urban developments.
Hans Scholten’s (1952, NL) work is included in many significant public and private collections. Additionally, he has realized important public commissions in The Netherlands. He exhibited his work in many major galleries and art institutes in and outside the Netherlands; as well as in museums like the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), SMBA, (Amsterdam), Huis Marseille (Amsterdam), and Museum De Hallen (Haarlem).
Over the years Scholten has given many guest lectures, has been a member of forums and has given workshops in The Netherlands and the USA, including New York, Boston and Minneapolis. He has also traveled extensively in Europe, South America, the Middle East and Asia. He currently lives in The Netherlands and France.
