      1. Sybrandt van Keulen leads the doctoral students in an exploration of the possibilities of different island concepts. The first part consists in close reading and discussing texts of Immanuel Kant and Gilles Deleuze. In the second part Van Keulen will present a powerpoint presentation which comprises an attempt to understand a specific application of an island concept. The key material of this presentation is the work Landfall (2003-2007) by Elodie Hiryczuk & Sjoerd van Oevelen.

      2. Biography

        Sybrandt van Keulen teaches aesthetics and philosophy of art at the University of Amsterdam. From 1994 to 1998 he taught at the Jan van Eyck Academy (Maastricht), and in 2005 at the Franck Mohr Institute (Groningen). He is head editor of Esthetica (since 2007), an open access platform for art and philosophy (http://www.estheticatijdschrift.nl/).
