      1. The other speakers are Jonas Staal, Ruben Abels of Designarbeid, Ahmet Polat, Dimitri Nieuwenhuizen, Libia Castro & Ólafur Ólafsson, Nathalie Beekman, Alessandro Ludovico, Merijn Oudenampsen, Pascal Gielen, Anke Bangma, Anne Nigten, Anke Coumans, David Stroband. 'Being political’ does not refer to the ordinary business of 'doing politics', but questions our basic attitude towards the world around us. It concerns ourselves as political beings.

In this conference we ask the artists how they are political in the domains they are working in: the local, the global, the intercultural and the digital. In what way are their artistic products, actions, projects, strategies and organisations the result of their political attitude? What are difficult questions they have to deal with? How do they want to move forward? What are the questions that concern us as the general public, as artists and as human beings?

The symposium Being Political (in art and design), organised by the research group Image in Context in March 2015, is the concluding symposium of the research group The Context is the Message. Members of this group are Jonas Staal, Ruben Abels (Designarbeid), Dimitri Nieuwenhuizen (lust) en Ahmet Polat.
